Introducing an Author: Sarah J. Maas

Introducing an Author: Sarah J Maas Her Website Genres: Young Adult Fantasy, Paranormal Romance My experience reading Sarah J Maas was probably not like others. The first time I read A court of Thorns and Roses. I put it down. Yep you heard it, I put it down and didn’t pick it back up until I saw more reviews to just push through the beginning. It took me 140 pages to get into the first book, but took me two to get into the second. For that reason, I can’t rank A Court of Thorns high on my recommendation list, however it leads me to the rest of the series, and the world she created which I do love. What made me stay was the world. It reminded me of the world building of C.L. Wilson, a world that was so enriched with details I couldn’t fathom not exploring it more. I wanted to understand the world and understand how it ticked, what made the sun go up and down the mysteries behind everything. I stayed more so for the world then I did the romance or the characters themselves, bec...

Introducing an Author: George R.R. Martin

George R.R. Martin   His Website Genres: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Urban Fantasy, Children’s Fiction My first introduction with George R.R. Martin was through the show. The first season, despite how everyone kind of just stopped talking about it, was all consuming. This was clearly the show of the year with how much people talked about it. Since the end of season one, I knew I wanted more. So I downloaded the books on Audible and consumed them back to back. The world existed and the character dynamics were so intriguing that I needed more. One of the reasons that I loved reading George R.R. Martin is the complexity with his characters and the storylines. It was like reading a cinematic experience in the world he built in Westeros is one that is magnificent. It’s in depth, and it felt so real. You never knew where he was going with it, who he was going to kill off next, and for the first time in a book series, no one was safe. It felt like real-life in a way. ...

Introducing an Author: Lemony Snicket

Introducing an Author: Lemony Snicket His Website Genres: Young Adult Fantasy, Children’s Fiction My first experience reading Lemony Snicket was when I was a child. It was one of my first chapter books, and A Series of Unfortunate Events, and one of the first books I read by myself. The very Bad Beginnings was in a sense, one of my beginnings into reading mysteries and adventures. I remember I was obsessed up to until the fifth book, googling who is Lemony Snicket, yet at the time only websites I was only allowed on was his website, that did not give away the Authors true name and since Wikipedia was still in its infancy, in a way, it wasn’t something that I used a lot. Recently, like a few years ago, I found out his name is Danel Handler, however for this purpose I am only going to stick to his pen name Lemony Snicket. Maybe in the future if I read any of his works, I’ll go in depth into him, however my adventures with him have only been through Mr. Snicket, so thus, he shall rem...

Introducing an Author: Jodie Picoult

Introducing an Author: Jodie Picoult  Her Website: https://www.jodipicoult.com   Genres: Literacy Fiction, General Fiction, Young Adult Romance, Mystery, Romance, Science Fiction  My first experience reading a Jodie Picoult book was when the movie My Sister’s Keeper was coming out on DVD.  I wanted to watch the movie and my aunt suggested I read the book first.  So I did…boy…this was the first book I actually physically threw across the room because I couldn’t stop crying.  I was…shook.  To this day, I have not had a book do this, the same way My Sister Keeper has done so.  I also grew up past the age of 10 and learned to be “a little” less dramatic when reading.  (Thank you fanfiction…)  Long story short, Jodie Picoult knows how to touch a soul as she had with mine.  She was my first experience bawling my eyes out over a text instead of screen.   This made me love her.  Similar to how everyone says Suzanne Col...

Introducing an Author: Adrienne Young

Introducing an Author: Adrienne Young She currently does not have a running website that I can find.  If you can, please comment down below!  Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult, Fiction, Historical Fiction, and Historical fantasy fiction The first book I picked up by Adrienne Young I believe was recommended to me through tiktok, before booktok was a thing.  This was I believe in 2020 when I first picked up her debut novel, Sky in the Deep.  I had been wanting a historical fiction book and this one about Vikings was one I couldn’t pass up.  This was one of the first books that made me cry while reading since I had read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.  It was magical and everything I could have asked for in a book.  A perfect debut for a new author and had me hooked on her writing from the first chapter.  What truly made me love her was the character building.  I felt truly immersed in her world and the time period that she was writing....

Introducing an Author: Rina Kent

Introducing an Author: Rina Kent Her website Genres: Dark Romance, Romantic Suspense, New Adult romance This first time I found Rina Kent was when I was browsing for some dark romance on Kindle Unlimited. I had just got kindle unlimited for the second time in college around 2022. I was getting my second degree . In the middle of the night I stumbled upon God of Malice. I remember reading the first chapter, and wondering about the depth of some of the other characters. There were parents' books, so I decided to stop and read the first in the series. (I like to start at the beginning of the series, even if I don’t need to.) I went with Cruel Prince, the “prequel” of the first trilogy. I believe I consumed it within 24 hours which is very unlike me. I then consumed her first series within the next few weeks falling in love with the stories before going back to the God of Malice. By the time I got there, I was hooked. Thus another obsession with another author. Rina Kent is...

How to Read a History Text.....as a History Student

In 2020, I decided to go back to school to change careers.  Going from the world of theater to the world of education.  A different type of theater to be honest, very similar in some concepts, but that’s another blog post.  I wanted to be a history teacher, and in order to do that, I needed three more years of schooling.   Flash forward to 2024, I have a theater degree, a history degree and an education degree under my belt.  Studying history was drastically different from studying theater, yet similar.  The papers were the hardest bit, but breaking down the text to understand the hidden message, that was the same.   About close to the end of my career at the history department I took a class on the Ottoman Empire, second half, and in this class we read a book every two weeks.  Something he was hoping to help prepare us for if we decided to go on for a graduate degree in history as then we would be reading a book a week.   So t...

Introducing an Author: C.L. Wilson

Introducing an Author: C.L. Wilson Her Website: https://clwilson.com/ Genres: Paranormal Romance, Horror, Fantasy The first time I picked up C.L. Wilson I had found myself in the ‘W’ section of a bookstore, I believe Books-a-Million here on the East Coast. There was something about the cover that kind of grabbed my attention because the side was a deep dark purple, something that stood out in the section that had very bright romance-y colors. The back is what made me buy it. Within a span of about 24 to 48 hours I read through the first book of the Tairen Soul Series, Lord of the Fading Lands and my adventure with C.L. Wilson books. I consumed her works similar to how I tried to consume Twilight the first time I picked up a big chapter book. Although information C.L. Wilson isn’t ready available as other authors, but what is true is that her writing ability to built worlds that consume the reader transporting them to whatever world she is diving into. She currently has two series...
