Introducing an Author: Rina Kent

This first time I found Rina Kent was when I was browsing for some dark romance on Kindle Unlimited. I had just got kindle unlimited for the second time in college around 2022. I was getting my second degree . In the middle of the night I stumbled upon God of Malice. I remember reading the first chapter, and wondering about the depth of some of the other characters. There were parents' books, so I decided to stop and read the first in the series. (I like to start at the beginning of the series, even if I don’t need to.) I went with Cruel Prince, the “prequel” of the first trilogy. I believe I consumed it within 24 hours which is very unlike me. I then consumed her first series within the next few weeks falling in love with the stories before going back to the God of Malice. By the time I got there, I was hooked. Thus another obsession with another author.

Rina Kent is a British-French (nationality). According to her biography she is fluent in four languages. Before becoming an author she had earned her masters in academic medical research and was in the process of getting her PhD when she began writing the series. Her forte is anti-heroes and villains.

Her series that she has is called the Rinaverse, which all of her books take place within the same universe with some different timelines. The books are meant to be stand-alone however they are connected with characters. The premise is if you fall in love with a side-character they probably have their own story in another book or will have their own story in the future.

Rina Kent at the making of this post, has around 39 published books with the 40th book being published in December 2025, and the 41st book coming out July of 2026. On her website she has four different ways you can read her books, by suggested reading, alternative reading, reading order by age group, and reading order by trope. With the new publication of the Viper series, it was supposed to be disconnected from the rinaverse, however the series is connected but with not as much interaction. So it takes place in the universe but not connected. (As far as I understand.)

Rina Kent also has 9 books that have been unpublished. The Team Zero books were her first series, and she felt that they didn’t represent her writing style anymore. She decided to take them off, as she felt like she evolved from them, and didn’t reflect her as a writer.

Overall, Rina Kent is a writer that is not for those who don’t like Dark Romance. She lists her trigger warnings for a reason and they are not to be ignored. She was the first author that brought me into the dark romance world, and no one really does world building in a way that she does. Her writing is not considered erotica, as sex is not the main plot, however there is a lot of sex, and it’s graphic. It’s elements like this that make me think of C.L. Wilson. Her world building is massive, beautiful, and intriguing enough to make me see past any flaws that may exist within her writing style. I recommended Rina Kent for those who want to travel into the dark side of romance. One thing that needs to be said about Kent, is her books are not for anyone not old enough to understand the implications of the real-life effects on these books. These are dark romance fantasies that almost every woman would want to explore through fiction, however if I meet any of the characters in real-life I’m running the opposite way as fast as I possibly can, with 911 on speed dial.

My suggestion would be to read in her suggestion reading order. Cruel Prince is a great place to start as it’s dark, but not too dark. Rina Kent adds depth to her characters in the Elite series that I think truly draws readers in, and keeps them locked in the Rinaverse dungeon.
