My experience reading Sarah J Maas was probably not like others. The first time I read A court of Thorns and Roses. I put it down. Yep you heard it, I put it down and didn’t pick it back up until I saw more reviews to just push through the beginning. It took me 140 pages to get into the first book, but took me two to get into the second. For that reason, I can’t rank A Court of Thorns high on my recommendation list, however it leads me to the rest of the series, and the world she created which I do love.

What made me stay was the world. It reminded me of the world building of C.L. Wilson, a world that was so enriched with details I couldn’t fathom not exploring it more. I wanted to understand the world and understand how it ticked, what made the sun go up and down the mysteries behind everything. I stayed more so for the world then I did the romance or the characters themselves, because don’t get me wrong they are beautifully written, but their complex that I think even sometimes she doesn’t know what to do with them. And isn’t that what makes a story good as well?

From my understanding there should be another ACOTAR book in the works focusing on Elain’s story that is expected plus more to come in the Crescent City series however nothing has been announced and it’s speculation.

Overall, the readers who would enjoy Sarah J Maas are those readers who love romance, adventure, and fantasy. I have yet to read her Throne of Glass series, however her Court of Thorns and Roses series deals with Fey and fey lore. I would say it’s even more than a romance, because it deals with war, tragedy, and the consequences of a world set up to crumble at the slightest mishap. It’s more than just romance, which only makes me want more.
