Music Show Awards
History of Music Show Awards
When it comes to K-pop one thing that is very distinctly them is the presence of Music Show Awards. Sort of like how MTV used to showcase artists on a weekly basis, the purpose of the show was to give every group an opportunity to showcase their new single regardless of the company size. It also provided a way for fan interaction with the groups in terms of voting, or listening to their music, requesting it to be played, and so forth. Allowing fans to be in the audience also allowed for students who may not have the funds to go see a concert, but allows them to go see their favorite at least once in a week, or a better chance at seeing their favorite group more often.Currently there are six shows running that offer a Music Award System: The Show, Show Champion, M Countdown, Music Bank, Show Music Core, and Inkigayo.
Music on top is a past show that included a chart system as well.
Music Shows are at the beholden of the channel that is showcasing them. Meaning that if the show doesn’t have high enough ratings, it gets rid of it. There are also multiple times that shows have gotten rid of their chart system then brought it back either changing some things or just bringing it back to get more views.
