Debut: Dream Girls - Last Comeback: Suddenly

IOI

Short for Ideal of Idol, also looks like the number 101 taken from the show Produce 101 in which the group was formed. Officially debuting on May 4, 2016, the group had a temporary concept of coming together from different companies to chase their dreams together. The survival show originally had 101 trainees and over the course of 11 episodes, the contestants were narrowed down into the 11 winners. IOI became the first of four Korean Produce 101 groups, however they had the shortest contract promotional period with just a year of promotions, however the group was incredibly successful to the point where future Produce 101 groups had longer contracts.

IOI officially disbanded on January 29, 2017 as they were never supposed to be anything more than temporary. The group was active for a total of 331 days during their time as a group.

Recently, all but two members came back for a 10th anniversary year with current expectations to end after their last tour date on June 21, 2026. This is about 48 days of scheduled additional promotional time.

Note about the Produce 101 show: There was a later controversy where future groups were determined based on the producers of the show and members were reportedly already chosen to debut in the show before fans even voted. The issue with that, is members of the public paid for votes in order for their favorite to succeed, resulting in voter fraud. When the news came out, the first season was said to have little to no voter manipulation, it wasn’t until the future did they really begin to pull it behind the scenes. Prosecutors have never outright said who was affected, so it’s vague on what happened. I wanted to address this with any of the Produce 101 groups, because it does impact the identity of the show, however at the time of IOI’s making and debut none of this had been brought to light until after the fourth season of Produce 101 were officially about to debut.
